Têpluquê

In an age shaped by digital media I wanted to explore the value of traditional hands-on techniques in children's storytelling. As a personal investigation I chose to work with paper cut-outs to illustrate the Portuguese short story Têpluquê by Manuel António Pina which tells of a child who confuses the letters T and Q.

Using this tactile method allowed me to build a visual world where children can connect more directly with the narrative through form texture and detail. The process of cutting assembling and arranging paper offered a slow and reflective approach that contrasts with fast-moving digital formats.

This work is not about nostalgia but about discovering how physical materials can foster deeper engagement imagination and motor skills in children. It is a reminder that analogue methods still have a place in contemporary storytelling especially when combined thoughtfully with today’s visual culture.
