Joosten MuellerFor the digital publication series Vermittlung, part of the Material Culture Studies (Studien zur Materiellen Kultur) published by Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, I designed the covers for volumes 3 to 5. Together with Joosten Mueller, we developed the cover design concept, which now serves as a flexible template for future editions.
The Vermittlung series publishes peer-reviewed, open-access works on textile didactics and material culture education. Edited by Dr. Patricia Mühr, it addresses an important gap in the German-speaking academic landscape by making research and teaching results freely accessible to a broad audience. This includes students, researchers, educators, and practitioners in both higher education and non-formal learning contexts.
Our design reflects the academic focus of the series while staying approachable. Using a neutral, minimalist typographic style, the covers keep the focus on the content. Carefully chosen color accents highlight each volume’s specific theme, creating a coherent and timeless visual identity across the series. The design supports the idea of academic exchange and collaboration, while allowing flexibility for a variety of topics.
